Jerusalem artichoke , also known as Jerusalem artichoke, originates from North America, and is prized there as both an edible and decorative plant. Jerusalem artichokes are used to make salads, soups, and salads, as well as gingerbread and other sweet desserts. In Poland, it is a little-known and widespread plant, yet quite exotic. It is relatively difficult to find in local shops and bazaars. On the other hand, Jerusalem artichoke coffee is becoming increasingly popular both in Western Europe and in Poland. In this form, this plant is definitely more readily available, and we can benefit from its valuable properties for our health.

Properties of Jerusalem artichoke coffee

Jerusalem artichoke coffee is a valuable source of micronutrients necessary for proper functioning, in particular:

  • Copper,
  • Potassium,
  • Magnesium,
  • Calcium,
  • Iron,
  • Phosphorus,
  • Calcium,
  • Silicon,
  • Sodium.

Thanks to its silicon content, which is relatively rare in our diet, Jerusalem artichoke can have a positive effect on the condition of our skin, hair, nails and bones, and can keep blood vessels in good condition by preventing the accumulation of cholesterol in them.

One of the most valuable ingredients in Jerusalem artichoke coffee is inulin, a carbohydrate accumulated by plants (like starch in potatoes). Fructose is produced from inulin—a simple sugar that is well tolerated by our bodies, even by people with diabetes. Jerusalem artichoke coffee has a low glycemic index and is low in calories, making it suitable for diabetics.

Inulin is a natural prebiotic that improves intestinal function and supports the absorption of calcium, zinc, magnesium, and iron. Prebiotics strengthen the body's natural immunity, support liver function, and remove harmful toxins.

Why is it worth drinking Jerusalem artichoke coffee?

Coffee made from Jerusalem artichoke rhizomes will prove beneficial in the prevention of heart disease, diabetes, and kidney failure. Due to its inulin content and richness in microelements, it's worth drinking regularly, especially if we:

  • strengthen the immune system,
  • support the metabolic process,
  • find a healthier alternative to traditional black coffee,
  • Eliminate the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.

How to prepare coffee from Jerusalem artichoke rhizomes?

To prepare a single serving of this aromatic, warming, and stimulating drink, simply add a fairly large, heaped teaspoon of coffee to a small saucepan, pour in a glass of water, and let it boil for about three minutes. You can add your favorite spices, such as cinnamon, cardamom, or ginger, at this point, although this isn't necessary. After boiling, let the coffee stand for about ten minutes, then pour it into a cup. You can add a little milk (even vegetable) or cream. Jerusalem artichoke coffee can also be added to gingerbread cakes or, in summer, used to make a refreshing dessert by mixing the drink with a banana and ice cream.
