Kelp, or bladderwrack, is a brown seaweed valued for its very high levels of iodine and other health-promoting ingredients. Fucus is found in the cooler waters of seas and oceans around the world. Already 3000 years ago it was used in the kitchen and in medicine. It was the staple food of the people of Iceland, Japan, and Hawaii. It was highly valued for its high nutritional value. Coastal Asians have used kelp for a variety of ailments.

The beneficial effects of algae

Kelp is one of the richest sources of iodine in the world - an element that helps keep metabolism at optimal levels and is necessary for the thyroid gland to produce hormones responsible for the energy metabolism of the whole organism. Fucus also helps with weight control. It prolongs the feeling of satiety, reduces appetite and inhibits the absorption of fats in the intestine. It also intensifies lipolysis, i.e. the breakdown of fatty tissue. Kelp improves tissue sensitivity to insulin, contributes to reduced absorption of fat and cholesterol in the small intestine, and then facilitates their elimination. Kelpa also contains soluble fiber that gently and non-aggressively helps to regulate the bowels and additionally protects the mucous membrane from irritation.

In addition to lots of iodine, Kelpa also contains vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, E, Zn, Mg, Fe, K, Ca and folic acid. It is an ideal composition for pregnant women due to the content of iron, folic acid and calcium, which is 10 times higher in seaweed than in milk.

What about the iodine?

Why is iodine important for health? Because the long-term lack of this element leads to an increase in the size of the thyroid gland, that is, endemic goiter. Endemic goiter grows larger and can put pressure on the trachea or esophagus. At the same time, in a man with goiter, in every person one sees an unsightly, bulging larger tumor of various sizes at the base of the neck, which distorts its contours. Proper functioning of the thyroid determines almost all processes in the body. The thyroid gland is responsible for the work of the nervous, muscular and circulatory systems, it has a beneficial effect on metabolism, growth and intellectual development.

Iodine is also recommended for pregnant women, since at this time the need for this element increases, and for nursing mothers to provide their baby with the right dose of iodine with food.

contraindications

The main contraindication to taking iodine is hyperthyroidism. Before using the preparation, it is worth reading the package leaflet, because if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, the preparation should not be taken. Chronic iodine poisoning can occur very rarely. It occurs only when the daily dose of the element exceeds the requirement by 20 times, i.e. H. 2 mg/day. Symptoms of poisoning are: a metallic taste in the mouth, increased salivation, stomach irritation and acne lesions on the skin.
