Why is it important to cleanse the body of toxins? Herbs with cleansing effects
Contents:
Today's lifestyle, the high degree of industrialization of cities, factory farming, and food production using all kinds of fertilizers and pesticides mean that our bodies are exposed to the accumulation of toxins, even with a healthy diet, abstinence from stimulants, and regular exercise. Their accumulation in the human body is favored by factors such as:
- Pollution,
- a diet low in vitamins, minerals and fiber,
- Consumption of highly processed products,
- Stimulants such as alcohol, cigarettes and excessive coffee,
- regular intake of medication,
- chronic stress.
Symptoms of body contamination
All of these factors cause our bodies to accumulate impurities, lose their natural immunity, become susceptible to disease and infection, and subsequently experience chronic fatigue. The kidneys and liver are responsible for the cleansing process, and in good health, they can excrete even small impurities. However, when the burden becomes too high, our bodies begin to send us signals that something bad is happening. Symptoms of body contamination include:
- Indigestion – the digestive system begins to work less efficiently, constipation occurs and food content begins to linger in the intestines,
- Skin problems – since toxins are also removed through the skin, skin blemishes, discoloration, excessive dryness and flaking of the epidermis can occur,
- unpleasant smell of sweat,
- Chronic fatigue – then even regular sleep and 8 hours of sleep per night do not guarantee rest and we will still feel tired, lack of energy and action,
- When we feel increasingly tired and stressed, it is a sign that it is time to detoxify.
Herbs with cleansing effects
If we feel increasingly tired and stressed, it's a sign that it's time to detoxify. In addition to avoiding stimulants during the cleanse and adopting a healthy diet without highly processed foods, readily available herbs with detoxifying properties can help. We can easily prepare healthy teas and infusions that can be used as a substitute for black tea and coffee:
- Nettle – cleanses the digestive system, supporting the proper functioning of the pancreas, liver, and stomach. It has a strong diuretic effect, allowing you to remove harmful and toxic substances from the body. For detoxification, both nettle juice, rich in vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, and dried herbs for preparing infusions are effective.
- Cistus – has a detoxifying and diuretic effect, supporting proper kidney function, especially during the intensive flushing of toxic substances. Furthermore, regular consumption of cistus infusion regulates the balance of bacterial flora in the intestines. For this reason, cistus is especially recommended in cleansing treatments.
- Milk thistle – supports liver function and has a detoxifying effect. Thanks to its content of silymarin, a complex of flavonolignans, it blocks the accumulation of toxins in the liver, preventing their destructive and damaging effects and also has a regenerating effect. This herb inhibits the absorption of heavy metals that enter the body through water and food and reduces the negative effects of an unhealthy diet and alcohol consumption. Freshly ground milk thistle seeds have a powerful cleansing effect when taken regularly for about 6 weeks and can be added to spreads and sandwich spreads, cereals, or salads.
- Horsetail – has a diuretic effect but does not affect electrolyte metabolism. This means it supports the elimination of toxins and excess water from the body, while also preserving micronutrients due to the presence of flavonoids, minerals, phytosterols, organic acids, and phenolic acids. Horsetail is also a rich source of silica, which has a positive effect on metabolic processes.
- Dandelion – a source of coumarin, phenolic acids, flavonoids, vitamins, and minerals. It has diuretic and saluretic effects. It supports proper liver function and the excretion of harmful metabolic products, thus contributing to the cleansing of the body of toxins.
During the body's detoxification process, it's very important to maintain a healthy, balanced diet that includes raw vegetables, fruit, cucumbers, sprouts, whole grains, and fiber-rich foods. You should avoid semi-finished products, highly processed foods with excessive amounts of fat, salt, sugar, protein, and trans fats, as well as all types of stimulants and carbonated drinks. Body-cleansing herbs are used to support and complement this diet.
