How to care for your skin in summer? Top 5 tips
- Peeling is essential
- Protect yourself from the sun
- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
- Tan – yes, tanning – no
- Makeup? Only (or mostly) minimal
Summer is not an easy time for our skin: murderous heat, unbearably high humidity and air pollutants are just some of the factors that have a negative impact on it.
How do you maintain a radiant, clear complexion and healthy skin? Just give them a little TLC, and they'll surely thank you! We've put together a few tips to help you have beautiful skin this season.
1. Peeling is essential
Exfoliating dead skin cells is one of the most important rules of skincare. Epidermal cells are constantly dying—and if they're not removed, the skin will look gray and dull, no matter how intensively you moisturize. You can use an inexpensive, natural scrub to exfoliate your body (coffee beans with a little oil are perfect!). Facial skin requires gentler chemical exfoliants containing acids and enzymes that gradually remove dead skin cells.
2. Protect yourself from the sun
Both mechanical and mechanical protection are necessary (make sure you wear a hat and light, but skin-covering clothing - and avoid prolonged sun exposure on hot days. Think about cosmetic support in the form of creams with a high SPF. To effectively protect your skin and the rest of your skin from the sun, you need a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which offers broad protection - UVA and UVB. When you are in the sun, reapply sunscreen every two hours - and also after every swim.
3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Both indoors and outdoors! Aim to drink far more than the usual 8 glasses of water a day (if the heat gets unbearable, it can't hurt to even double that amount). Also, use moisturizing creams and lotions, both for your face and body. The cream doesn't have to be greasy to be effective, but be sure to apply it immediately after washing your face or getting out of the shower—don't let your skin dry out!
4. Tan – yes, tanning – no
There are few things as damaging to skin as tanning. Seriously! Golden skin looks beautiful, but don't be fooled: This alluring color is a sign that our natural barrier is damaged. And it's damage that accumulates over time, leading to premature aging, wrinkles, dryness—and in the most serious (but not uncommon) cases—melanoma. So if you want to give your skin a beautiful glow, reach for a self-tanner or bronzer—and say goodbye to tanning beds and solariums!
5. Makeup? Only (or mostly) minimal
Makeup preferences are a personal matter, but one thing is objective: when the mercury rises, even the most carefully applied makeup simply flows... It's an effect that only the best makeup fixers can handle, and even they don't always succeed.
Therefore, it's best to replace your foundation with a light BB cream, avoid heavy eye makeup (although a bit of waterproof mascara never hurts!), and always remember to powder your face thoroughly, for example, with natural rice or bamboo powder. It's worth choosing colored cosmetics with UV filters, but keep in mind that these alone don't provide sufficient protection—using powder or foundation with a filter doesn't relieve you of the need to apply a cream with a high SPF!
