Artichoke - Plant Characteristics
The artichoke [Latin: Cynara scolymus] is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family, native to Europe and Africa. Countries where artichokes are grown on a large scale include Switzerland, Spain, Germany and France. The basic plant raw materials are the whole herb or the isolated leaf itself. In Poland, artichokes should be grown in warm and sunny locations characterized by fertile soil. Artichoke herb is very easy to recognize by its taste, which is quite tart and bitter.

Artichoke herb contains:

• Phenolic acids, known for their astringent, anti-edematous and antioxidant properties
• Cynarin - a substance belonging to phenolic acids that has a positive effect on the function of the liver and bile ducts, digestion and food metabolism, as well as cholesterol and lipid levels in the blood
• Flavonoids, which are characterized by anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
• Chlorogenic acid, which according to literature, among other things, neutralizes the effect of peroxynitrite, one of the most harmful oxidants formed in the human body
• Minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and iron
• Inulin, which has a positive effect on blood sugar regulation

• Liver ailments - due to its cynarin content, artichoke is one of the most valuable herbal raw materials with liver-protective properties. In treatment, it is worth combining it with milk thistle
• Digestive system problems - artichoke is recommended for constipation, indigestion, or bloating due to its cholagogue, cholepoetic, and bowel-regulating properties.
• High cholesterol - the substances contained in artichoke help maintain normal cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.
• Artichoke has mild diuretic properties and facilitates the excretion of harmful metabolic products

Usage suggestions
Pour a teaspoon with a glass of boiling water and let it steep covered for about 10-15 minutes. Drink 1-2 times per day.

Artichoke herb tincture

Required ingredients:

• 100 g of dried artichoke herb
• 200 ml of 40% alcohol

Place the artichoke herb in a bottle and pour the prepared alcohol over it. Seal well and shake. Set aside for 15 days, shaking frequently. After this time, filter the liqueur and transfer it to a clean bottle.

Take 10-30 drops of artichoke tincture in a glass of water, several times a day, one hour before meals.
