Melissa Herb 200 g
Melissa - a common plant with extraordinary properties
Lemon balm [Latin: Melissa officinalis] is generally associated primarily with its calming effect. However, it is interesting to know that it has also gained recognition in gastronomy due to its unique flavor. It is a perennial herb found in Southern Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Due to its many valuable active substances, lemon balm is one of the most valuable and widely used plant raw materials.
Does Melissa really have a calming effect?
In traditional herbal medicine, it is used as an excellent sedative. These properties are due to the presence of essential oil, which has a calming effect on neurotic conditions as well as feelings of strong nervousness and overstimulation. It also has valuable properties for insomnia. When processed correctly, the plant releases the essential oils contained in it, which relax and relieve spasms in smooth muscles. Therefore, lemon balm is recommended for stomach complaints such as severe bloating.
Other properties of lemon balm
The calming effect is not the only thing that distinguishes lemon balm. It also has other properties, partly due to the highly effective rosmarinic, caffeic, and ferulic acids. Flavonoids and phenolic acids are also present. These are characterized by their effective antioxidant action and are very strong antioxidants. As a result, melissa neutralizes free radicals that are harmful to the human body.
Melissa in cosmetics and aromatherapy
Its versatile use makes lemon balm a very valuable plant. This is evident in its use in the production of certain cosmetics and in aromatherapy. According to research findings, melissa has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. It also shows high effectiveness against the herpes virus.
Melissa is also used in home cosmetic treatments. Its properties make it suitable for use in problems with seborrheic skin, i.e., skin prone to eczema. A hair rinse made from these herbs, on the other hand, is well suited for people struggling with oily hair.

Contraindications
So far, no special contraindications for the use of lemon balm have been proven. However, like all other herbs, it should be consumed in moderation. It should be considered that these plants have a strong calming effect, so it is not advisable to use them simultaneously with sedative medications. If you are prone to skin irritations and allergies, you should be cautious with home cosmetic treatments.
