L-proline is one of the body's own amino acids. This is very important during the period of intensive growth of newborns. Proline and its metabolite (4-hydroxyproline) make up 1/3 of all the amino acids that make up collagen protein, which is the main component of connective tissue. Collagen makes up 30% of all body proteins. It increases nitrogen retention in the body, so it can have a positive effect on muscle mass, making it useful for athletes.
